 Ireland-Work-Visa

Ireland, which was once referred to as a backyard of Great Britain, is carving a niche for itself as jobs have proliferated in this country in Western Europe.  Recent figures are a testament to it.

It does not matter if one has just passed out of college or is a highly skilled professional; people of all hues are looking to obtain an Ireland work visa or employment permit. It is a country to where people can take their families too as people are warm and friendly.

Once individuals are in its possession and are employed, they are entitled to the same Irish Employment Rights as the citizens of the Emerald Isle as it is also known as.

Ireland issues various types of employment permits, but the Critical Skills Employment Permit and the General Employment Permit are given mainly to workers in the tech sector.

The Critical Skills Employment Permit is the equivalent of the Green Card for this island country. But just like its American counterpart, it is only offered to those whose jobs skills qualify to fall into the Highly Skilled Eligible Occupations List. Since most Indians are sought all over the world for their proficiency in technological skills, they would also be in demand in Ireland. Be they programming, web design, web development or other jobs in the information technology field, this is the right time for Indians to apply for an Ireland work visa.

People opting for the Critical Skills Employment Permit path are entitled to many benefits.

They do not need to undergo any labor market test, allowing their visa processing to be simpler and quicker.

With visa under this category, the permit holders can apply immediately for their spouse/children to join them. Once they reach Ireland with the permit holders, they are eligible to apply for a Partner/Spouse/ Dependent Permit allowing them to work there too. This application is free.

Another advantage that Critical Skills Employment Permit holders can avail is that they would be able to apply for residency just after two years of residing legally in Ireland. It is not so for other permits holders as they need to wait for at least five years.

But people employed under this Work Permit should be getting an annual salary of minimum €30,000. They also need to have landed a two-year employment offer. They cannot switch jobs for a minimum of one year. After one year, they can switch jobs so long as they prepare new applications employment permits. The applicants then may be able to change a job with a similar designation or a job in another field that features on the Eligible Occupations List. The fee charged for this permit is €1,000. If people are refused permits, 90 percent of the fee will be refunded to them.

Holders of the General Employment Permits are allowed to pursue employment in a broader range of fields, apart from those featuring on the Ineligible Categories of Employment for Employment Permits list.

Here, the annual salary applicants should earn must be a minimum of €30,000.  The required annual salary may, however, be reduced to €27,000 if they satisfy certain criteria.

They should be non-EEA students who have graduated within a year from a foreign third-level educational institution and have been offered a graduate position on the list of the Highly Skilled Eligible Occupations or non-EEA students who have graduated within a year from a non-EEA educational institution and have been offered a graduate position belonging to the ICT Category, which is featured on the list of Highly Skilled Eligible Occupations.

But if both these classes of individuals want to renew their permits, they should be earning a minimum of €30,000.

This permit is normally issued for a period ranging from six months to two years and which can be extended by three more years. The general employment permit holders are eligible to bring their dependents to join them in Ireland after one year, only if they can financially take care of them. People with these permits can for residency after five years of stay in Ireland.
